What is Volunteer’s Week?

The celebration starts on the first Monday in June every year. It’s a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society.

From open days to celebration events, every year hundreds of online and in-person activities take place across the UK to mark Volunteers’ Week and celebrate volunteers.

This year Volunteers’ Week will culminate in The Big Help Out, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June, where people across the UK will get the chance to experience a range of volunteer taster sessions.

So how can you get involved?

VCSE organisations can get involved in many exciting ways. There are tools and resources around running an event, supporting and managing volunteers, using social media, launching a new volunteering project, and an opportunity to sign up for email updates here.

If you are a voluntary, community or social enterprise group in Wiltshire, and you want to make a video or give a testimonial to thank your volunteers, please contact Sarah Pickering volunteerdev@wessexcommunityaction.org.uk and we will add them to the page!

Whether you’re already volunteering or want to start, this Volunteer’s Week page has resources on sharing your story and becoming a volunteer. Click here for more information.

If you are in Wiltshire and you would like to volunteer, see our volunteering opportunities here.

Check out our volunteering opportunities on Wiltshire Together and give volunteering a go! There are lots of taster opportunities to try out, or promote your own activities and events on our pages by adding a volunteering opportunity.

Get ready for the Big Help Out 2024 in Wiltshire

Last year, as part of the King’s Coronation, the Big Help Out was launched. It was a national campaign to showcase how volunteering benefits both communities and the people who take part. The Big Help Out encouraged people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out was to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.

This year, the Big Help Out will take place over three days from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June 2024, at the climax of Volunteers’ Week. Including a weekday will now give schools and workplaces the chance to get involved - and organisers are calling on old and new volunteers to lend a hand to causes in your local area.
